My old domain, janjonesbeautytherapy.com (don’t bother looking for it – it’s gone to silicone heaven now…), served me well for what must have been about 10 years. It went through various iterations over that decade, starting with vivid fuchsia highlights in the colour scheme, complementing some hastily-designed floral business cards I had printed to be going on with. Back then, my studio was tiny, with barely enough room for me to get all the way around the massage table, but the website had lots of detail about the luxury products used in the treatments, and it got the job done.
As time passed, and I begun my association with THALGO, I was able to work a bit more on creating a personal brand, and the focus moved into giving more information about what the treatments entailed, and the benefits they provide. Relocation from West Sussex to North Wales, and a much larger studio gave me the chance to decide where my priorities as a therapist lay, but communicating that philosophy took a bit longer to articulate.
Frankly though, the old website was not generating enough custom to justify the time and expense of running it, with the web host really cranking up the fees each year, just to add insult to injury. A chance encounter with a business growth consultant (Hi, Jess, if you’re reading this!) led us to rethink the whole thing: The .com domain name was all very well, but I’m not trying to communicate with potential clients in Nebraska or Aukland, so why not be more specific and go for a .co.uk? Moving to a new host gave us the opportunity (my husband, Carl, prefers the word “mission”) of moving the website architecture to WordPress, which gives us a huge amount of flexibility as to appearance and content, but we thought the work would be justified in the long run… Jess set up the basic structure for us, and Carl rolled up his sleeves to try and turn the vision into reality. It took a couple of months of trial and error to get the website as you see it now, and there is still lots of work to do, but what I hope is really clear from the content is what I want for my clients: peace, tranquility, serenity, relaxation and renewal…
There’s still a bit of work to do with the branding I think, but I’d love to hear your views. The website is just one tool for communicating with clients and potential customers, but it’s an absolutely essential one, so it’s important to me that you like what you see.
We’re in the process of stocking the online shop with THALGO goodies at the moment, so keep an eye out for the launch of that! If you’re on the hunt for TEMPLE SPA, my other big brand, then you can find the entire range at https://spatogo.templespa.com/janjones
Hopefully see you back here soon!
Jan xx
